How to give a premium server more or less RAM and CPU, how to switch it to a longer or shorter billing cycle, and exactly how the prorated charge or credit shows up on your account.
A premium server is never locked to the size or cycle you bought it with. Upgrades apply immediately and cost only the days left in the cycle; downgrades apply immediately and hand the difference back as credit; and a cheaper cycle is one modal away. This guide shows where each change lives and what the numbers in the preview mean.

Only the person who pays for the server can change it; everyone else sees the card locked with "Another member of this server pays for its plan, so only they can change it."
You pay the difference between the old and new price for the days left in the current cycle, and from the next renewal the full new price. Your credit balance is used first, then your saved payment method; if neither covers it, a hosted checkout opens. The new size applies as soon as the payment lands.
If the machine your server lives on cannot fit the new size, the sheet says so and offers Move and upgrade: the server moves to a node with room (in the same location, or one you pick) and gets its new size there. Moving is free, you can choose whether the server starts when the move finishes, and if the move fails the server stays put and the payment comes back as credit.
The unused days of the current cycle at the old price, minus the days at the new price, come back as credit on your account, and the smaller size applies right away. From the next renewal you pay the new, lower price. Credit is spent on your next charge automatically; it is not refunded to your card.
⚠️ Heads up: An upgrade waits while your account has an unpaid balance: the sheet shows the balance with the upgrade and applies the change once everything is paid. Clear the balance first if you are in a hurry, see Payment problems.
| What you did | On the Billing page | Invoice or credit note |
|---|---|---|
| Upgraded mid-cycle | the server row shows the new size and price; the next charge date is unchanged | an INV- invoice for the prorated difference, with "credit applied" if your balance paid part of it |
| Downgraded mid-cycle | the credit balance card goes up by the credit | a CN- credit note for the credited days |
| Deleted a premium server mid-cycle | the credit balance goes up by the unused days | a CN- credit note |
| Switched billing cycle | the server row shows the new cycle, price and next charge date | an INV- invoice for the amount due today, or a bigger credit balance if the old cycle was worth more |
Credit is always in your subscription's currency and is used before your card on the next charge.
Every server has its own cycle, so you change them one at a time:
The new cycle starts today: the next charge date moves to the end of the new cycle and the server keeps its resources. Switching does not spend your existing credit balance; the amount due is paid by your saved method (or a checkout), and credit left over from the switch stays on your account for later renewals.
A switch is available while the server is active and not scheduled for cancellation, and while your account has no unpaid balance; if it does, the switch collects the balance in the same payment and the preview lists it under Also due from your account.
💡 Tip: Going from monthly to annual right after a renewal gives the biggest credit and the smallest top-up. Going the other way is fine too; the unused months become credit and quietly pay your next monthly charges.
A server showing a Legacy price badge kept a locked price from an older plan and renews at that price. The preview in the resources sheet shows what a change would cost at today's rates, so read it before applying.
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| The Upgrade or Downgrade card is locked | Someone else pays for this server; ask them to change it. On a free server the card opens the premium upgrade instead, see Buy a premium server. |
| Change Cycle is greyed out | Resolve the outstanding balance, undo a pending cancellation, or wait for a renewal that is in progress. |
| The server still shows the old limits | Restart it; the new limits apply on the next start. |
| "Your node can't fit this size right now" | Use Move and upgrade, or pick a smaller size to stay where you are. |
| The downgrade did not refund my card | By design: the unused days become credit, which your next charge uses first. |
